Our Ethos
Our ethos is based on the belief that all children and young people should be given the same opportunities in life regardless of their early life experiences, their background, age, or sexuality. We believe all young people should be loved, happy, healthy, safe from harm and able to develop, thrive and fulfil their potential. We achieve this through working systemically, in practice this is child-focused intervention which seeks to make sense of the world through all relationships that the child may have. By extending ourselves and acknowledging our role and influence in the life of the child, we are able to expand our knowledge about the child’s world to make a real difference.
Our home offers children and young people a family environment, where they can develop effective and lasting relationships both within the home and the local community. It is hoped that living within established communities will support young people to develop their social skills and build resilience to support their preparation for transition into independence.
We promote, advocate for and actively encourage our young people to grow in self-confidence, independence, building their skills of effective communication, enlisting their views and supporting their participation to shape their lives, whilst preparing them for the future.
Our primary focus is centred upon our children and young people making progress in all areas of their lives and making a lasting and positive impact.
PACE and secure base model
Our adults are trained using the principles of Playfulness Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy (PACE). Our training is underpinned by understanding the impact of trauma upon early childhood development. We recognise that trauma has the capacity to arrest child development, stagnating the natural and expected stages of development.
Our children will have the opportunity to develop trusting relationships with a consistent team of adults, benefiting from the structure offered by responsive attachment figures children develop the confidence and resilience to experience ‘family style living’. Gabriel House will be the Secure Base from which our children gain the ability to explore their world and the relationships that they value.
Systemic practice
In keeping with our systemic practice ethos, our team will strongly emphasise, where approved to maintain family ties and key relationships. We therefore promote time with family and friends and work towards promoting healthy relationships that will be of benefit to the young person when they leave our home either to return to their family. Our primary aim where possible is to keep local children safe and close to home.
Our team
We are a small care team of staff dedicated to making a difference in the life of young people.
'It may not always be easy but it will always be worth it'.
